Using the Capitals of Europe list from worldpopulationreview.com, we compiled a list of the capital cities in Europe which would serve as our list of European family-friendly city break destinations.
From this list, we went to Booking.com and, using the basis of two adults, one 12 year old child looking to go on holiday from the 1st to the 8th of August, 2019, we searched for properties which had family rooms available.
Using the “family rooms” filter, we then sorted by price to find out the lowest price available on the website to accommodate a family of three for the seven days of the holiday. We also made sure that only private rooms were listed to avoid bedroom sharing properties showing up.
From this, we then went to Trip Advisor to find out how many kid friendly attractions there were, using the “good for kids” section of each city page.
We then looked at the Safety Index Score of each city to determine how safe the destination was considered to be; the higher the number, the safer the place is said to be.
We also looked at how many days on average it rained in a year in each of the cities, giving an overall average of how much it is known to rain in those particular places. We used data from weather-and-climate.com/ to determine this.
Once all this data had been collated, we weighted it to give an overall total score to take into account all of the factors, producing a ranked list of Europe’s Most Family-Friendly City Breaks.
