5 Cleaning Tips For Busy Parents

Having kids is one sure-fire way to make sure that your home never stays spotless for long. Staying on top of the cleaning and tidying can be tough when you’re a busy parent who has plenty of other things to be getting on with. So if you need some quick tips that will help you to keep your home in order, without taking up too much of your time, look no further.

Regular Decluttering

If there’s one thing that makes any parents’ job harder, it’s got to be clutter. The more ‘stuff’ you have in your home, the more you have to try to keep it all tidy. The problem is, more and more of this clutter finds its way into the family home with every birthday and Christmas that passes.

With this in mind, why not have a clear out before each birthday and Christmas, effectively making space for the new toys and gifts that family and friends will give to your kids. This means that you’re not just piling more on top of what the children already have, and it’s a great opportunity to make a donation to a charity shop, which is something you can involve the kids in.

Use Lint Rollers For Messy Jobs

Kids can bring magic into your life in so many ways, but this also includes the unappreciated power to deposit crumbs almost everywhere they go. While a vacuum cleaner is bound to do a perfectly good job of cleaning these crumbs up, it can be a little time-consuming.

Save on time and electricity by placing a few lint rollers around the home so you can just grab one and swipe over wherever you need it. This is perfect for crumbs, hair and even craft messes such as glitter.

Wash Toys in Bulk in the Dishwasher

Children’s toys can be a breeding ground for bacteria. They don’t take long to become covered in dirt and grime. Getting all of them clean can seem like a daunting job, but it doesn’t have to be. In fact, you can just pop plastic toys in the dishwasher and get them all clean in one go.

Just load up the dishwasher with toys and get on with something else while you wait for it to finish, so you can get twice as much done.

Invest in Easy-to-Use Tools

Some cleaning jobs require a lot more effort than others, and sometimes that’s simply because the tools you use take a lot more time and effort to prepare Vacuuming is far more time-consuming and requires a lot more effort when you have a large, heavy vacuum cleaner that needs to be plugged in all over the house compared to a lightweight, cordless model that can be whipped out easily for small messes. The same applies to mops that require filling up a bucket with detergent and water compared to those that have a built-in cleaner which can be spritzed on the floor as you go.

This might take a little investment, but these tools can make life a lot easier in the long run if you are a busy parent.

Use Plenty of Storage

The right storage is a parents’ best friend, and making sure you have plenty of it will help you to keep your home tidy and well-organised. Try using storage boxes in every room, so there is always somewhere to pop kids’ toys when you’re doing a quick tidy round. This will also make it a little easier to get the children involved in keeping their home tidy. You can encourage them to return toys to their homes after playing with them without it becoming a big ordeal.

This storage will also help you to decide when it is time to have a clear out. When you can no longer fit all the toys into their storage boxes, that’s the perfect indicator that something has to go.

Keeping a clean and tidy home can be a big challenge for busy parents, but making a few changes here and there can help things to feel a little less chaotic, and a little more homely.
